I’m not so sure about that. Not every summer here is dry and crazy hot. We do sometimes have decent summers here.
Yep we have to remember that the 2010's consisted of multiple droughts and was a drier than normal decade.This may skew the perception of Summers being normally dry here..But climatology wise June is Houstons wettest month on average.And pop up showers are the norm until August most years.But again it may not seem that way if your perception of the local climate is only based on the last decade or so.

The National Weather Service in League City has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...
Eastern Waller County in southeastern Texas...
West central Harris County in southeastern Texas...

* Until 630 PM CDT.

* At 559 PM CDT, a severe thunderstorm was located 7 miles northeast
of Katy, moving east at 30 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and nickel to quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Hail damage to vehicles is expected. Expect wind damage
to roofs, siding, and trees.

* Locations impacted include...
Katy, Jersey Village, Spring Branch North, Addicks Park Ten, Spring
Branch West, Cypress, Westbranch, Carverdale, Willowbrook, Spring
Branch Central, and Fairbanks / Northwest Crossing.

I completely agree with this. The 2010s in a lot of ways were analogous to the climate of the 1950s for Texas with periodic severe droughts. However, both decades are anomalous compared to the average climate.

Looks like their may be some small hail heading into The Woodlands right now.Also the line of storms that’s supposed to come late tonight is forming west of I-35 at the moment.👀

That was quite a storm that just rolled through Plum Grove. Purple cells don’t happen too often around here. Wonder what kinda hail it produced.

...STRONG THUNDERSTORMS WILL IMPACT NORTHEASTERN WHARTON... SOUTHEASTERN AUSTIN...SOUTHEASTERN GRIMES...NORTHERN FORT BEND... SOUTHWESTERN MONTGOMERY...NORTHERN BRAZORIA...WALLER AND WESTERN HARRIS COUNTIES THROUGH 1245 AM CDT...

At 1158 PM CDT, Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 13 miles west of Huntsville to near Beasley. Movement was west at 45 mph.

HAZARD...Wind gusts up to 50 mph and pea size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Gusty winds could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects. Minor hail damage to vegetation is possible.

Locations impacted include... Sugar Land, Missouri City, Conroe, Rosenberg, Stafford, Bellaire, West University Place, Katy, Richmond, Tomball, Jersey Village, Hempstead, Prairie View, Brookshire, Hunters Creek Village, Bunker Hill Village, Piney Point Village, Pinehurst, Spring Branch North, and The Woodlands.

That was nice to watch from the patio! Little over a 1/2” in 10-15 min with a lightning show and cool breeze. I’ll take that every night lol

Yes, next week’s drought monitor should look much better. This rain was very timely and should last us a good while (especially if it rains again Monday) but it doesn’t take long to dry out again.
