I want to take moment to wish all of our Weather Forum Family a Merry Christmas and a Very Happy New Year. This year has brought both good and difficult challenges to our Board Family. In early February, we received our new platform and work quickly began to make our Local Weather Forum a great place for all with many added features. The most difficult challenge we have faced was the loss of our friend and Weather Forum founder and mentor, Dan Meador (wxdata). As we move ahead to better and brighter days, I hope all will take a moment to remember the good times we’ve shared through the years with all our members, both past and present. I know I do not take for granted anyone in our local weather forum community and please know that it is a great honor to be a part of such a diverse and multi faceted group. I also want to thank all the folks that have sent words of encouragement throughout the year. You will never know how much it has meant and the strength you have provided to continue on in the face of some very difficult challenges. We all share a common love and that is all things weather.

Very well said Steve. I feel like this board has gotten stronger and stronger as the days have gone by. I know this summer was tough for many on here but I feel like we have come together even more after the death of Dan to make sure that this board forever lives in prosperity. I know that the weather lately has been dull but I am proud of everyone for posting as much as they have. Continue the hard work everyone and I know we will be more than prepared when the weather gets more interesting. Merry Christmas everyone and stay safe. :)

This is the first time in a while I've been able to look at things closer than just a quick peek, and it looks as though we may finally be headed into a more stormier pattern as we head into the New Year. I know Steve and wxmx on AmWx have talked about this a lot lately...

For the lack of a better word, things have just sucked lately for SE TX weather... Strong -ENSO ftl... Hopefully we have a break from the benign pattern coming up. The 18z GFS would be fun.

I find this forum to be more entertaining, informative, and relevant than all the other weather media combined. I sincerely appreciate the efforts of all those who post here. Have a wonderful Christmas and prosperous New Year...!

PS ... A DROUGHT-FREE New Year...

I think you are onto something. We are in a strong La Nina right now. I remember 1988-1989 had some big freezes in February and another one in March. Also, there was severe weather in the spring, one in late March 29 and two in May (first a derecho event that came from North Texas in the early morning hours of May 6 and the flood event on May 17-18). Also, three storms made landfall in 1989, Allison, Chantal, and Jerry. This was following a strong La Nina winter that went into Neutral.
