12z euro shows .3in of moisture but the surface levels aren't always frozen. Since the rest of the column will be frozen it shouldn't be much of a problem but keep it in mind
Those surface temps do not reflect evaporative cooling effects. If the model has dews in the 20s, that's all I need to know.

We will not be above freezing with precip falling

So when do you guys think the NWS is gonna jump ship and issue a colder forecast with more precipitation. So far they are still holding out with mid 30's thursday and friday and less accumulation than the models are showing and trending towards.

The school district canceled after school tutorials and CIS scheduled tomorrow.

Note that the pocket of "warm" air that's showing up is just a pocket of 33-34 deg air in a thin layer between about 5000-9000 feet up. It's not a pocket of air in the 40s or 50s, as often happens over Houston in the winter. Just 1-2 degrees above freezing, which is well within the potential model error. All models do currently indicate at least some snow as the precip ends Friday morning, even down to the coast.

I haven't heard of any school "closings;" Spring ISD is letting out 3 hours earlier today - not sure if more will follow suit.

Just not to get TOO excited, I may want to take the position of my mother and few other people - I will believe when I see it. She still isn't convinced. She IS worried about getting down to the medical center tomorrow to have stitches taken out of my dad's ear. If I'm not mistaken, she should be okay - and make it home before it starts.

I suspect nobody will have school on Friday. Probably early release on Thursday as the event may start taking shape around noon.

I expect school closings announced tonight after the school districts take a look and see what is coming. A WSW around here is MORE than enough to close school, so i expect the trigger to be pulled on Friday classes.

Randy, you've lived around SE TX long enough to know we need to be prepared for any eventuality. I'd prepare my RV in your situation, if I were you. These rolling blackouts may only increase in the days and hours ahead.

Do not take that information as fact. You very well may be blanketed with snow if a heavy band sets up after the column of air cools. At this point, nothing is certain except for the area will see Snow, Ice, and Freezing Rain. The amounts and diving line/changeover time are unknown until tomorrow at this time.

I wanted to answer a question I just got by PM. I think it'll benefit the newbies and folks looking for information.

First off, this is not a hurricane. You do not need to prepare as if we are about to be hit. In a hurricane, you worry about your windows blowing in and your roof flying off. Then you're stuck without power for 3 weeks while your food rots in the refrigerator. The precautions that need to be taken are as follows:

-make sure you have an up-to-date insurance card in your car. It may sound funny, but the potential is there for thousands of accidents tomorrow and Friday.

-fill your gas cans for generator use. There is a distinct possibility of losing power thanks to ice before it begins to snow.

-As far as the meat and food in your refrigerator...if we lose power, just put it on your back porch or near the front door. The temps outside will keep it fresh. (Just watch for the neighborhood strays)

-Keep a blanket and flashlight in your car. If you get stuck on the freeways on your way home from work, you want to make sure you have those two things....and flares. If it snows heavy, and it looks like it will on Thursday night into Friday, you want to be seen.

-Wrap your pipes, leave faucets dripping and leave cabinet doors open. Running water is harder to freeze than still water.

These tips should get you through our impending winter storm.

Anyone seen the updated Winter precip graphic on the Hou-Gal NWS homepage? 1-2" snow and sleet all the way to the immediate coast with 1-3" across Houston metro?

http://www.srh.noaa.gov/hgx/ and select the Winter Weather tab. Several forecast images will cycle.

"Everything as we’re getting closer to this winter event is pointing to heavier snow and more travel problems," Paul said.
