Re: January: Tracking The Jan 7th-11th Storm System
Well, I guess I should have asked Santa for a weather station, for Christmas! :) We lost power on Christmas morning, due to high winds, for 2 days (Thank Goodness for the generator). It started raining, here, night before last, and has taken a few breaks...but a nice steady rain, no less. The thunde...

Re: January: Tracking The Jan 7th-11th Storm System
It has been raining here, with varying intensity, since about midnight. I was kind of surprised that the rain started so early, last night/this morning. Just had a pretty heavy band move through, with some thunder.

Wishing all our friends "over yonder" a speedy recovery from this. Keeping my fingers crossed that all of our wobble-watching is for naught.

Re: Hurricane Isaac: TS Watch Extended To E Of High Island
Board is quiet. Eerily... But since it is, at the moment, thought I would share this from the other board regarding my earlier question about "Hurricane" vs "Tropical Storm" designation: "I heard a point that if you're a homeowner who gets damage, you really don't want this...

Re: Tropical Storm Isaac: TS Watch Extended To E Of High Isl
It doesn't make any difference at all other than from a historical point at this time. Reanalysis has changed many a forecast after the fact. FEMA and Personal Insurance makes no difference what so ever. Disaster Declarations have already been issued both from State and the Federal Level for Louisi...

Re: Tropical Storm Isaac: TS Watch Extended To E Of High Isl
Is there any reason for declaring a storm offically a "Hurricane" vs "Tropical Storm"? I can understand a historical perspective. But, am curious as to any implications as far as Federal Disaster relief funds, or personal insurance claims, etc...

Re: New Year's Superstition/Tradition about the Weather
Well, the winds this morning are from the North @ 8, with gusts to 16...supposedly meaning "Bad weather for the year"...Hopefully, not! The drought this past summer was bad enough. I'm really hoping for a reprieve, this year.

New Year's Superstition/Tradition about the Weather
Good Morning, Everyone! I hope you all had a great Christmas. And, I hope it will be followed by an even better New Year! I was playing around researching some New Year's Day superstitions/traditions, and ran across this about the weather: At Sunrise on New Years morning, observe the weather: Winds ...

Re: Southern Massachusetts Tornado (6/1)
A close family friend of mine, is in Springfield, MA. She made it through the storm okay. Bless her heart...she goes to Baylor with my niece, and was at school a few weeks ago, when they had tornadoes in Waco. She just got home (in Mass.) for summer break, and swears the tornadoes are following her!

Re: Welcome Back Weather Forum Community
Yay! Glad everything is back up and running! I kept expecting some sort of message about the forum to show up on my Facebook KHOU news feed...but nothing. I was getting a little concerned! Even though I don't post very often, I read everyday, several times a day. I felt lost without my "weather...

Re: February 5-11-11 Winter Weather Advisories Issued
While it isn't freezing rain, there is a steady light rain falling, here. With temperatures already below freezing and a pretty stiff wind...it won't take long to start having some slight problems around here. Luckily, it was well above freezing for the past couple of days. My neice is a grad studen...

And speaking of "stirring the pot"...I've got the chicken boiling for a big pot of Chicken and Dumplings. We're going to need some "warming your soul kinda food" for later this evening, when we come in from playing in the snow. ;) As for now, I can report it is really cold up her...
