I'm expecting a Blue Norther next week, one model showed 50s and sunny skies to Below Zero and snow in just 12 hours!

They can’t even get today’s weather correctly. We are screwed next week.

We knew the snow was going to disappear
I’m not worried about that. The GFS is actually looking better for us overall the past few runs. A few more shifts and we could be in the ballgame. Plenty of time.

Their is still a lot of time for things to change lol, the GFS is known for showing something exciting, then dropping it, only to bring it back again once we get into the short range , the trough position is getting better by each run and that is a good thing, plus the mesocale models might do a better job of sniffing out any sort of disturbance that moves in behind the Siberian airmass in. place once they get into range

There was only a 20 percent chance of light rain today and it sure looks like way more than that around. It really came down in that line. Did a model catch this for today?
Time to start monitoring our source region in Yukon (NW Canada) to see just how cold it gets up there.

Yep, plenty of time to watch the models progress as we move through the weekend but its time to start thinking about freeze preps especially if you will be traveling away from home next week for Christmas weekend.
How many hours each night should we be at freezing or below? Guesstimate

I’m thinking 4-5 overnight freezes and potentially 48-60 hours below

Just David Paul. Well caught the middle.
Coldest seems to be Friday night or morning.

1983 was quite cold. It set many records.Cpv17 wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 8:45 pmI didn’t realize 1983 got that cold. I always thought it was just a long duration freeze but nothing extreme like that.Ptarmigan wrote: ↑Thu Dec 15, 2022 8:00 pm Coldest Christmas Days recorded in Houston.
https://www.weather.gov/hgx/climate_hol ... %20degrees.
11°F 1983
20°F 1989
26°F 1990
27°F 1924
29°F 1985
If we go by the forecast, it could tie with 1924, 1985, and 1990.
There was freezing rain in December 1924 and 1990.
