Getting very heavy rain and lots of lightning and thunder with this .... but the winds were nothing like they were yesterday. We've had some power flickers too.

I have a gneral question for our weather gurus. As I was growing up my friend's grandmother used to wait for the first night in late summer when the LOW temperature was in the 60's. She would then say "that the back of summer is broken". I remember those days happening in last August or early September. Do any of our gurus know-or can research-what is the average date for Houston to first get a low in the 60's in the fall. I know on the forum we have talked about the 50's, but i'd like to know about the 60's. (posted on Mon.)

I looked at old records and did notice some years there were 60's in July. Also, do you need know 60's from 60 to 69 or 60 to 65?

Sorry for the lateness of my reply, had computer troubles yesterday. In answer to your question ,ptarmigan , could you answer it both ways? Average date for 65-69 as a low? and maybe average date for 60-65 as a low? yes, I know that very rarely we do get low temps in the 60's in July, but my grandmother was talking about the start of fall, so I'm sure it was in late august, early September that it usually happened.

No offense Ed, but I am just hoping for cooler weather. I love the low humidity, do not get me wrong, but I am looking forward to highs in the 80's and lows in the 60's...:)

Thanks for the info, ptarmigan, so since we are at the 27th today we are already later than the median or the average. Maybe with the rain this week-end , we might cooler mornings but so far the forecast as still for avbove 70. Hope this doesn't turn out to be like October of 98"
