All the birds and garden reptiles over here are convinced that winter is done.

Well, whatever winter has left better get going within the window of the next ~2-3 weeks. Even in the context of cold snaps, things become increasingly gentler/milder going into late Feb, then into March.

The fact that reptiles are showing up just ~2 weeks after a cold snap is a testament to the (overall) mild/warmth of the SETX winter climate. Even when factoring in the cold snaps, the (relatively) brief durations keep ground temps from getting too cold — this is likely what allows the reptile populations to persist (especially if they can burrow/take shelter in the ground), and it also seems instrumental in allowing a good percentage of tropical plant regrowth/recovery. The same cold snaps, but more prolonged with chillier temps would allow less recovery (although a chilly period prior to a cold snap would allow better survival for stuff like citrus due to slowdown/dormancy).

Just gonna be a prolonged spring moving forward I think. Maybe a cool front or two but am not expecting any more freezes.
