So why would there be snow further away from the coast if every where is below freezing? Warm nose maybe?

Brazoriatx979 correct, the closer to the coast you are, especially if there is a coastal low, the closer yoy are to that influx of warm gulf air, hence the warm nose is greater near the coast which is why it would be more ice/ sleet than snow, the further in land you are, the warm nose will be much weaker or non existent which is why you see more snow for in land counties on that euro run

I get it..but also would the placement of the gulf low have an effect also? Closer to land the better the warm nose..further away the less chance?Stratton20 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:06 pm Brazoriatx979 correct, the closer to the coast you are, especially if there is a coastal low, the closer yoy are to that influx of warm gulf air, hence the warm nose is greater near the coast which is why it would be more ice/ sleet than snow, the further in land you are, the warm nose will be much weaker or non existent which is why you see more snow for in land counties on that euro run

Brazoriatx979 yup, if the coastal low is too close to the coast, it would be either rain ( depending on temperatures) or freezing rain for more in land counties, if the coastal low is further off shore ( though not too far offshore because it could rob moisture) that would be a better scenario for coastal counties to see snow , it really is about timing and placement, which of course is always a challenge down here

Yes. Actual air temps aren’t going to be the issue here. But if you get a coastal low closer to the coast, you could be looking at freezing rain in 24 degree temps which will snap everything.Brazoriatx979 wrote: ↑Sun Jan 12, 2025 1:09 pmI get it..but also would the placement of the gulf low have an effect also? This would cause serious power outages which could be devastating because of the cold air

No excuse really. Arkansas and NC see this every year. July sucks a lot more power.
The grid hasn't been connected between west and east Texas...or Texas and the rest of the US.

I am copying this link from POW Ponder. All I have to say is wow. I don’t know if this would be a repeat of 2021 but it’s so far looking like it.
