History about to be made down here in Houston. Hot off the presses from the National Weather Service:
“Confidence is increasing in the prospects for a potentially historic winter storm to impact SE Texas on Monday Night and Tuesday, with impacts from this storm lingering into the early
part of Wednesday. Periods of heavy mixed precipitation are expected at times, and forecast snow totals would place this as one of the most substantial snowfall events in the history of the
Greater Houston Area...
For areas along the I-10 corridor, including Metro Houston, we anticipate broad totals of 3-5" of snow. Locations north and south of the I-10 corridor are expected to pick up 1-3". There remains the potential for some locally higher amounts, and this will ultimately be tied to the exact location and strength of any mesoscale snow bands associated with the system as it moves along the coast. We will soon enter into the range of convection-allowing models which will help us pinpoint the potential impacts of these localized snow bands more. However, the general thought is that a reasonable worst case scenario of up to 8" of accumulation can’t be ruled out…
To put this into a historical context, we haven`t seen a storm quite like this impact Greater Houston in quite some time. In fact, if we were to measure a snowfall amount more than 3 inches
in Houston, it would be the second highest snow amount ever recorded in the city (the highest being 14 inches back in 1895, and the second highest being 3 inches in 1960). Some area
counties may have their all-time snowfall records threatened (for example, Fort Bend County has never recorded a snow total of more than 4 inches).”

Im thinking we stay below freezing on wednesday as well, especially if you get under one of the really heavy snow bands, still could have travel problems on thursday and maybe even friday according to Herzog, honestly id probably just take it easy until saturday when everything will definitely be melted off

Yeah I like that map too! Seems like the past 2 coastal lows overperformed rain wise so it should be interesting to see the heavy bands.
