Waiting for Godot question:
What happens first?
- FROPA or Rain in SETX
- End of gov. shutdown
Over/under? 20 days, 35?

NOAA is back up, so that's a partial win. Orange is really Louisiana weatherwise, so that's a another partial win!

GFS keeps the SE ridge parked right over texas for the large majority of october lol

need to see that - PNA really weaken otherwise you can kiss rain chances and cooler weather goodbye

The persistent-PDO is a big reason why rain chances have been so inconsistent the past few years.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 02, 2025 6:22 pm GFS keeps the SE ridge parked right over texas for the large majority of october lolneed to see that - PNA really weaken otherwise you can kiss rain chances and cooler weather goodbye

Cpv17 yeah that definitely isnt helping us out either, seems like its been feast or famine in terms of rain in october here for what seems like forever, would be nice to have a normal october, but clearly that doesn’t look to be the case again this year

I honestly don't even know what "normal" is anymore.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Thu Oct 02, 2025 7:46 pm Cpv17 yeah that definitely isnt helping us out either, seems like its been feast or famine in terms of rain in october here for what seems like forever, would be nice to have a normal october, but clearly that doesn’t look to be the case again this year

I will say this. I remember October 2004 ( my first year of marriage), it was abnormally hot. In fact, it is still the hottest October of all time. Halloween was brutal at 88 degrees. Ridges do happen, all the time. Eventually, the heat will be dislodged ( Meteorology 101, the earth/weather always likes things equal) because the colder air up north will push down toward us. Until we have that real strong front, we will deal with this.

Usually we get a pretty good front towards late October, so I wouldn’t expect anything till then.tireman4 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 9:20 am I will say this. Models are breaking down our stubborn - PNA in about 8-9 days, maybe thats the key factor that leads to a bigger pattern change, ridge rebuilds over the western US, so that tells me their should be more of a trough over the central and eastern us in response to that

As hot as it's been, it feels like we are eating from a trough.Stratton20 wrote: ↑Fri Oct 03, 2025 11:37 am Models are breaking down our stubborn - PNA in about 8-9 days, maybe thats the key factor that leads to a bigger pattern change, ridge rebuilds over the western US, so that tells me their should be more of a trough over the central and eastern us in response to that

I just have a gut feeling this is going to be a fall/winter to just forget if you like colder weather.

500 MB height pattern through the rest of october looks absolutely ugly with an aleutian trough over alaska and troughing in the bering sea, you can pretty much kiss any chance of a fall front this month goodbye, rain chances look pretty weak as well
