From the Storm Prediction Center, regarding Sat/Sun storm system:
ACUS48 KWNS 090925
SPC AC 090925
DAY 4-8 CONVECTIVE OUTLOOK
NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK
0325 AM CST WED JAN 09 2013
VALID 121200Z - 171200Z
...DISCUSSION...
UPPER TROUGHING IS EXPECTED TO EXTEND FROM THE SWRN U.S. INTO THE
UPPER GREAT LAKES REGION INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK WITH A BELT OF FAIRLY
STRONG FLOW ALOFT FROM NRN MEXICO INTO THE OH VALLEY. THIS FLOW
REGIME WILL FORCE A COLD FRONT ACROSS ERN TX INTO THE LOWER MS
VALLEY/CNTRL GULF STATES WHERE ASCENT ATOP FRONTAL ZONE SHOULD
ENCOURAGE CONVECTIVE DEVELOPMENT. WHILE STRONG FLOW ALOFT WILL BE
NOTED ALONG THE ADVANCING WIND SHIFT...SEEMINGLY SUPPORTIVE OF
ORGANIZED SEVERE TSTMS...WEAK THERMODYNAMIC PROFILES AND THE
TENDENCY FOR POST-FRONTAL CONVECTION MAY ULTIMATELY LIMIT SEVERE
POTENTIAL WITH THIS ACTIVITY DURING THE DAY4-5 TIME FRAME.

Anyone notice the new band trying to setup from Matagorda out into the Gulf? Perhaps another round tonight, esp. for SE areas?

I don't think this was a bust! A bust would have been if it didn't rain!
Just kidding folks...
But our friend Linder did get some 740am air-time..
Should get more rain tonight...
Looks like things have destabilized a little tonight.

Already heard a few rumbles of thunder tonight.
If that band sets up over me in a few hours it could be a very rainy night.
Loving all this rain.

The low's still spinning away in west Texas. Last few frames you can see the complex explode down to our southwest.
Will it hold together?

Rain all next week.
Now the question becomes...Does this line of rain go through the Houston area...?
Looks like it's already starting to go through the Houston area, at least the southwest side.gocuse22 wrote:Now the question becomes...Does this line of rain go through the Houston area...?
Stronger portions of this line should start to come through around 2am

What a difference a day makes. This board has gone DEAD with the talk of arctic air spilling down and putting us in a deep freeze. That is all anyone was talking about and now, not a word. Everyone from local board enthusiasts, Larry Cosgrove, Joe B to local on air mets were all on board and now not a word. Crazy.
Ed, I'm trying to cypher out the GFS 8 day. For Sunday, the 13th, would I be reading it right that the highest chance for rain is around 6 a.m. and the front also passes at that time because the wind direction flips to the north to about 10 mph?
Last January, I remember the GFS was aces on temperature range, but wasn't as sharp on the timing and intensity of rain and didn't know if it's still that way. thanks.

Here is a link to the Sciguy who writes for the Houston Chronicle. Of course, we never know what Mother Nature will do - but this would explain why the board is quite quiet with news of any impending coldER weather coming our way in the next weeks. I still am holidng out for some really really cold air. Just because I know what's coming starting in May and it would be nice to bottle some of this cold air for those 100 degree days!
Let's get the talking started again on the cold.

Interesting article from a met at Accuweather on the Sudden Stratospheric Warming that is occuring. I just wonder what parts of the U.S. will get the Arctic dump? Any thoughts?
