Final Update from Jeff for this event:

Winter weather event ending over SE TX.

 

Radar shows most of the precipitation is ending across the area or limited to areas south of I-10 and mainly just north of Victoria where surface temperatures are above freezing. Still seeing surface temperatures near or slightly below freezing from SE Harris County eastward resulting in some minor ice accumulations on bridges and overpasses along I-10 east, HWY 146, and Spur 330 in eastern Harris County.

 

Based on surface observations, most of what is showing up on radar is not reaching the ground and is evaporating due to the very dry sub cloud layer.

 

Very dry air and continued north winds should continue to dry/sublimate small amounts of ice accumulations for the next few hours. Patches of standing water will begin to freeze late this evening as temperatures fall into the 20’s and well into the 20’s by Wednesday morning. Could continue to see some patchy ice on area bridges especially from eastern Harris County eastward into Liberty and Chambers Counties.

 

Hard freeze warning is in effect for tonight for all locations north of I-10 where temperatures will fall below 25 degrees for at least 2 hours.

It certainly was a roller coaster ride theclast few days, that is for sure and thanks to the pros who took time out to help us figure it all out... I hope everything dries up tonight so there are no nasty surprises lurking as we all head back to work/school. I am also interested in how much rain we can expect in the next few days?

God bless you guys. No WAY I can run that far. I run 42 miles a week, 7 miles a day averaging a 7:30 pace. I get really ansie if I have to run over an hour. My mantra, if you cannot get it done in an hour, forgetta bout it. I will say, if I am hard pressed, I "might" try a half marathon. I have not done one since 1985. I have to get it done in less than one hour and thirty minutes though. I am 10ker.

haha awesome!! and thanks. I ran 27 miles Friday, 10 Saturday, 10 sunday, and my knee has been a bit tender so I took the last two days off to watch the weather. I just got into ultras. marathons aren't far enough for me any more. I was running 10 a day before but I'm starting to stretch into 17s and 27s and stuff. my first 50 mile race is this summer and I have a 31 miler in april. Austin marathon in feb and the woodlands marathon in march

Someone mentioned the radar showing rain in the Victoria/Edna area and it is making it to the ground. it is primarily rain but sleet has been mixed in with it. My car thermometer showed 29-30. What are chances of ice on bridges in the morning?

I just want to draw your attention momentarily to what is going on to our east. Folks, it could be many, many, many years before you see the expanse of Winter Storm Warnings across the entire northern gulf coast again. In fact, preparations are currently underway to ready bridges in Jacksonville, FL. They are looking at their first snowfall/ice event in 28 years. This is a BIG DEAL. Atlanta, GA (city officials and NWS) totally screwed the pooch on this one. Kids stuck at school overnight. Buses are trapped on the roadways. It's a nightmare. It's just really a historic time for those to our east. If anything, take a look at the map and gaze. It's truly a phenomenal event to see most of north Florida under a Winter Storm Watch or Warning.
