okay, so here's my report.......thunder and lightening....has died down for now. Can't really tell what my temp is at my house.....KHOU weather caster shows 31. And a humorous side note - on the app it shows "snow" for the next hour!!
Not sure if what I heard falling was sleet or not.

Major lightning and thunder at 529/Fry. Shook my house and scared the crap outta me!
Whatever is falling from the sky is clicking on my metal patio cover. The wind is nothing to sneeze at either.

Very strong cell still holding up and appears that it is about to cross into southwest Harris County.

You can see the main disturbance starting to come through from the South Texas radar.

Some pretty loud thunder here as well. Winter Storm Warnings should be issued to Fort Bend I would think. This is going to be an interesting night if the rain doesn't warm the surface. Wow so unpredictable.

Impressive. That cell I keep taking about appears to be gaining a little strength as it moves into southwest Harris County.

Was just about to post this...don wrote:You can see the main disturbance starting to come through from the South Texas radar.
Some people will be confused once this initial band moves out. That's our main event come daybreak...
This current stuff isn't helping anything, tho

Tim Heller said that the cell is right over Cinco Ranch right now. Anybody in that part of town?

10:00 PM Update from Jeff:
High impact ice storm likely.
Radar continues to show extensive rapid development of moderate to at times heavy freezing rain and sleet from northern Harris County westward to west of San Antonio. With surface temperatures already at or below freezing across areas along and north of I-10 freezing rain and ice accumulation is likely.
Given increased duration of the event in combination with heavier precipitation rates requires the adjusting of ice amounts into the .10-.25 inch range along and north of I-10 with isolated amounts possibly as high as .30 of an inch. Continue to be worried about the incoming convective cells and their ability to put down some really good freezing rain rates.
This will cause significant travel impacts across all the warning area starting within the next few hours and lasting well into midday Tuesday. Travel by Tuesday morning will be extremely hazardous with ice likely on all bridges and overpasses and even some surface streets.
Ice amounts may be great enough in isolated areas to result in some loss of tree limbs and power lines leading to isolated power outages.

Both the 0z GFS and the latest (1z) HRRR short-range model increase moisture amounts for the Austin/SC Tx area overnight and show between .25" and .5" of precip for the Houston area. Definitely worrisome.

The rain here is starting to freeze on my patio grill, also going from drizzle to light rain.
