10" of rain this month ... wow!

Heck, we feel fortunate over here in Austin because we've had about 4 1/2" of rain this month.

Saturday morning briefing from Jeff:

Strong winds likely tonight and Sunday.

Gale Warning in effect all waters late tonight/Sunday

Powerful storm system will move out of the SW US and deepen surface low pressure over southern OK this evening. Surface pressures fall to near 992mb overnight north of Dallas resulting in a very tight pressure gradient to setup across TX late tonight into Sunday. 120kt jet core is already punching into W TX this morning and will spread ENE across the state today. Some of this wind energy will be brought to the surface over W TX where winds will gust to 75mph across the W TX mountains and Big Bend area. These winds will spread eastward into central TX this evening and overnight into SE TX in a much weakened state.

Looking for widespread advisory level wind conditions late tonight into Sunday with sustained speeds of 20-30mph and gust to 45mph. Along the coast and offshore gust may reach 50-55mph. Core of strongest winds may extend from central TX into the coastal bend area on Sunday morning with frequent 40mph gusts.

These strong winds for several hours may result in power outages and the downing of tree limbs. Loose outdoor objects should be secured today. Marine vessels should seek safe harbor by early evening and conditions across the bays and Gulf waters will rapidly build to hazardous tonight into early Sunday with seas building to 12-14 feet. Would not be surprised to see offshore platforms gust to 60mph early Sunday.

Upcoming week of weather looks completely opposite of the past week’s active events. Temperatures should cool to near normal for late January as a series of dry cold fronts cross the state. Looks like moisture will be too limited for rainfall with any of these fronts.

As mentioned previously, very cold air is building in Alaska and may surge southward into the US sometime toward the start of February.

My weather apps are saying winds of 25 mph tomorrow. Not nearly as high as what folks have been saying.

This is what Jeff said. I believe 25mph is between 20 and 30:
Looking for widespread advisory level wind conditions late tonight into Sunday with sustained speeds of 20-30mph and gust to 45mph.

People were talking about 40-50 mph sustained winds all week.

Not on this Weather Forum. There were some data suggesting gusts to 50 MPH may be possible with an isolated gust or two possibly higher mainly from Montgomery County and on West. Now offshore there may be some very gusty winds.

Hmmmmm……..just maybe.

Saturday will allow an arctic based
chilled air mass to spill into the region over the weekend.
Subfreezing mid-level air reaching the coast Saturday night will
lower overnight (weekend) minimums to under 40 F. There are slight
POPs in place early Saturday and...depending on the arrival of the
coldest lower-middle layer air in relation to the highest downstream
moisture...the mention of frozen precipitation may work its way
into future forecasts.

Be careful out there today as the winds are beginning to whip up across Central Texas as the Storm System in Eastern Oklahoma deepen rapidly and heads on East. The pressure gradient is increasing allowing strong winds above the surface to mix down as we begin heating up. METARS to our West are already suggesting wind gusts to near 40 MPH and an offshore ASOS at East Breaks has reported a 50KT gust the past hour. The main threat for high winds will likely be along and West of I-45 and out over the NW Gulf Waters.
