It's amazing what precip from a cold column can do, and quickly. Snow bands are getting thicker and closer together. 6+ inches on non-road surfaces possible in some areas. What a long wait - but it's great to see a wintry system over perform in every way.srainhoutx wrote:Down to 32F now in NW Harris County. Snow is sticking to everything but the roads. All rooftops, grassy surfaces and cars covered with about an inch of snow that continues to fall.

Use extreme caution during your morning commute. Many flyover bridges have iced up particularly on 290, I -10 and the West and North Beltway 8. They are treating roadways as need. Also take plenty of pictures and share them here this morning. The snow should melt away by 9 or 10 AM.

This is truly an unbelievable event...
We had about 2” here. Just enough to turn it beautiful and for the kids to have a little fun. What a wonderful early Christmas present!

A quick look ahead in the longer range via the Ensembles, we may have another shot of much colder air as we near Christmas. Enjoy the scenery this morning. It's a sight to behold across our Region and makes you appreciate how rare these type Wintry events are way down here along the NW and Northern Gulf Coast.

Friday morning Update from Jeff:
Snow band has shifted to the coast with snow ending for most areas except Matagorda Bay region.
Accumulation and temperatures falling to 31-32 over the southern 2/3rds of the area has resulted in ice formation on several flyovers and some bridges and overpasses especially across western Harris into Fort Bend and Waller Counties. TXDOT, HCTRA, and other crews are actively working multiple iced over bridges.
Use extreme caution on any bridges even if it just looks wet. Take as many surface streets as possible and avoid the high flyover connector ramps.
Temperatures should warm above freezing by 900-1000am helping to accelerate the melting.

Went to bed at 1am and the snow was light. Got up a few times between 1 and 7am but didn't see much outside. Looked out at 7am to the images below. First picture is a panorama.

A big huge amount of thanks to all of our contributers here. Without you, this board does not work. We are big weather family and we thank you so much for being here. Second, a huge shout out to our pro mets ( Wxman 57, Srain, Andrew, Brooks, Mcheer, Belmer and Jeff) and amateur mets. We are in your debt for what you contribute to this forum. This Winter, I think, is far from over and I believe there will be more excitement to come in the days and months ahead. Stay tuned and enjoy the ride.

I am not a pro met ( Srain, Andrew and Wxman 57 can speak on this), but if the jetstream continues the buckling it has ( I heard...on TWC WeatherUnderground...close to January), been doing, then arctic incursions are a possibility.
